Jegor Zaika was born in Moscow, Russia in 1977.
He started his career in 2000, mostly working for the leading titles including Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, GQ, ELLE, Numero and shooting fashion images and celebrity portraits. His first monograph “Trade” - a collection of fashion and portrait photographs - was published in 2009 followed by eponymous solo show.
Between 2010 and 2013 Jegor Zaika was invited to teach a photography course at The British Higher School of Art and Design in Moscow - a period in which his interest in fine art and documentary photography grew. In 2012 Jegor Zaika in collaboration with Max Sher presented the project “Residence Permit”, containing photographic images, video and installation at the Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art in Moscow.
In 2013 Zaika presented the project “Guild”, showing a series of portraits of modern Russian cinematographers, at the Eisenstein’s Library Exhibition Hall. Same year Jegor Zaika started project “Signs”, capturing the present state of the physical surroundings of WWII-era concentration camp sites. The project was exhibited in January 2015 in Moscow at the Jewish Museum and Tolerance center.
In 2016 his documentary project "Motherland" was exhibited as a part of the official program of the XI International Month of Photography in Moscow – Photobiennale 2016.
Later this year the project "Motherland" was included in Moscow Multimedia Art Museum’s permanent collection.
